The Bharat Scouts & Guides (BS&G)

Overview

The Bharat Scouts & Guides (BS&G) is the national Scouting and Guiding association of India, registered under the Societies Registration Act. It operates as a non-political, non-sectarian, and non-communal organization. Scouting was first introduced in India in 1909, with Guiding following in 1911. The organization is structured through a hierarchy of local, district, and state associations, with the President of India serving as Chief Patron and the Vice-President of India as Patron. BS&G conducts regular training and reorientation programs for Scouts, Guides, and their leaders, focusing on character building, leadership development, self-control, self-reliance, and self-direction.

Mission: To contribute to the education of young people through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law.

Vision: To be a globally recognized, consistently growing, self-reliant youth movement that is gender-balanced, vibrant, and responsive to contemporary trends.

Principles

Duty to God: Adherence to spiritual principles and loyalty to one's religion.

Duty to Others: Loyalty to one's country, fostering peace, understanding, cooperation, and societal development.

Duty to Self: Responsibility for one's own development.
